DIGSSCORE
The Digital Social Science Core Facility (DIGSSCORE) is a hub for advanced survey research, digital data collection, and interdisciplinary social science research. The facility manages the national research infrastructure KODEM and coordinates Norway’s participation in the European research infrastructure the European Social Survey (ESS).
About the research centre
DIGSSCORE is a core facility within the Department of Government. DIGSSCORE facilitates research on society and politics, with a particular emphasis on survey-based data collection and experimental methods.
DIGSSCORE is responsible for running and coordinating two major infrastructure projects at both national and international levels.
Tuesday Lunch Seminars
DIGSSCORE and the research group Citizens and Democracy at the Department of Government organize a weekly seminar series held in the Corner Room at Rosenberggaten 35. The Tuesday Lunch Seminar takes place every Tuesday from 12:00 to 13:00 during the main periods of the academic semesters and is open to all interested participants. While the seminars are primarily held in person in the Corner Room, they can also be attended digitally. Contact us at digsscore@uib.no if you wish to subscribe to the email list.
Background
DIGSSCORE was established at the University of Bergen in 2016 as a major initiative in digital social science, with financing from the Trond Mohn Research Foundation (TMF). Since then, DIGSSCORE has developed digital infrastructures and panel surveys that enable fast, flexible, and data-driven social science research. At the core of the initiative is the Norwegian Citizen Panel, and pilot projects with coordinated surveys of more groups important for democracy n Norway.
In 2025, the infrastructure is being continued and expanded through KODEM – Coordinated Online Panels for Research on Democracy and Governance in Norway. Funded as a national research infrastructure by the Research Council of Norway, KODEM enables research-driven surveys targeting four key societal groups: citizens, elected politicians, public administrators, and journalists. Building on the experience and technology developed through DIGSSCORE, KODEM establishes a more permanent and coordinated national infrastructure for social science survey research in Norway.
DIGSSCORE as a core facility has offices for several of the people working with KODEM or ESS at the University of Bergen, and is an active professional environment. DIGSSCORE hosts seminars, workshops, and research meetings, serving as an important arena for interdisciplinary collaboration and methodological development in the social sciences.
