Geomatics Computer Lab & Software Resources

An overview of computing facilities and licensed software provided by the Geomatics and Remote Sensing research group. The Lab is available to students working with remote sensing data who require high-performance computing resources for their projects.

Software licenses and use cases:

  • Agisoft Metashape: Photogrammetric processing of digital images; generates 3D spatial data such as DSM/DTM, point clouds, orthophotos, and 3D meshes
  • Pix4D: Photogrammetry software for drone data; outputs include DSM/DTM, point clouds, orthophotos, and 3D meshes
  • Catalyst Professional: Geospatial desktop suite for remote sensing, photogrammetry, and Earth Observation; supports optical and SAR imagery
  • eCognition: Advanced object-based image analysis for automated processing of remote sensing and GIS data.
  • ArcGIS Pro: Comprehensive GIS software for advanced mapping, spatial analytics, and data management.

Computer specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-10980XE @ 3.00 GHz
  • Memory: 64 GB RAM
  • Operating system: Windows 11 Enterprise (64-bit)
  • 8 GPU (recommended for deep learning workloads)

Cloud Server Processing:

Students also have access to the Norwegian Research and Education Cloud (NREC), an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform designed for demanding computation and large-scale data storage needs.
