About the topic
Sustainable natural resource management requires policies that mitigate the ecological consequences of economic growth, while also securing human rights and public health. Human geography reveals the forces that either support or undermine sustainable forms of production and consumption, from both a short term and a long term perspective.
Research on natural resource management examines how the needs and interests of diverse actors either align or conflict in primary sector dynamics, both at a local level and across scales. Accordingly, human geography research on natural resource management contributes new knowledge on how we can maximize synergies and minimize trade-offs between the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability.
