Human Geography and Sustainable Development
Human Geography explores interactions between humans, society, and the environment. We work in both natural and socio-cultural contexts, in cities and rural areas. Our research examines opportunities and challenges for sustainable development across a range of scales, from the local to the global.
About the research group
The Human Geography and Sustainable Development group conducts research and teaches on a range of pressing global challenges. We work in a diversity of geographical contexts, from the Global South to the region where the University of Bergen is situated in western Norway. Key research themes include: climate and energy transformation; political ecology; food production and food security; global development and inequality; green transformation, circular economy and industrial development; natural resource management; and urban and regional planning and place development.
