GIS and remote sensing

In combination with geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing is an essential tool for studying and monitoring changes on the earth's surface, better understanding the state of the environment and the effects of climate change, managing the environment, and planning future land use.

About the topic

Through effective visualization, GIS breathes life into spatial data and makes geographic patterns and processes visible — processes we need to better understand in a rapidly changing world with the goal of a green transition. Digitalisation, together with more easily accessible and larger volumes of remote sensing data, better infrastructure for geographic information, the ability to analyse big data, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), make spatial data and analyses an effective and future-oriented geographical tool. At the Master's Programme in Physical and Environmental Geography, you will have the opportunity to use GIS and remote sensing within various topics related to applied environmental monitoring and management.
