About the research group

Key research questions

The research group members work on issues relating to, amongst other things, environmental activism and local, national and transnational political and civic engagement and advocacy. We also explore different perspectives on migration and diverse societies by studying migration processes, migration-related inequality and exclusion, as well as different perspectives on conflict, integration and participation in diverse societies.

We conduct both qualitative and quantitative analyses of protest and civic engagement, of environmental issues and of migration processes, inequality, integration and conflict in Europe, as well as migration to and from the European continent.

The SMEM-group also investigates how the environment, migration and ethnic relations are linked to social and political mobilisation and change.
