About the research project

EXPUN is a research project that aims to explore and address the challenges in the administration of punishment within the criminal justice system.

The project focuses on the different frameworks of penal execution in Norway and India, examining the philosophical, legal, economic, and criminological perspectives involved. The project aims to identify the discrepancies between the law in theory and practice, analyse the impact of these discrepancies, and formulate recommendations for improving the legal frameworks.

The research project utilizes a mixed research methodology, including legal doctrinal analysis, legal empirical research, and comparative analysis. The ultimate goal of the project is to contribute to the development of more effective and equitable sentencing policies that promote rehabilitation and reduce crime.

International collaboration

The project is a collaboration between the Faculty of Law at the University of Bergen and Nalsar University of Law in India. It is conducted as a twin project, where the same questions will be addressed in both Norway and India with support from national and international experts.
