What BOAP offers
BOAP offers a publishing solution for academic communities that want to establish a scholarly open access journal or book series. The service includes:
- Technical hosting of the Open Journal Systems publishing platform
- DOI assignment
- Training of editors and editorial staff in using the publishing platform
- Ongoing user support
The editorial team is responsible for editorial work, peer review and publishing.
Terms and conditions for using BOAP
Journals and book series must meet the following requirements:
Full requirements
- The journal must be open access.
- Access must be free of charge
- Access must not be restricted by username/password or by IP address
- Submitting manuscripts and publishing in the journal must be free of charge for authors.
- Establishing a new journal must have an academic and scholarly justification.
- The journal must have procedures for peer review and must at minimum meet the requirements of a level 1 journal.
- The journal must follow OASPA's Code of Conduct: http://oaspa.org/membership/membership-criteria/
- The journal must be published under a Creative Commons (CC) licence. The University Library recommends a CC BY licence, but the editorial team may also choose CC BY-SA or CC BY-NC. The licence must be approved by the author and must be displayed on the journal's website, on each individual article, and in full text (PDF). A machine-readable version of the licence must also be included in the article.
- The authors must retain copyright without restrictions but grant the journal the right to be first publisher.
- The journal must be affiliated with the University of Bergen. For example, the editor, editorial board members, or the journal's administrative staff must be employed at the institution.
- The journal must publish at least six articles, or peer-reviewed contributions in other forms, each year.
- Published articles must comply with requirements for universal design.
- If the terms and conditions are not followed, the University Library may remove the journal from BOAP.
