Information and Innovation Law
The members of the group research legal issues pertaining to technology, innovation and processing of information, including intellectual property rights and the processing of personal data.
About the research group
Information and innovation play an increasingly important role in modern society. With the rise of the Internet, artificial intelligence and the general technological development, rules on processing information and distribution of innovation, such as those on intellectual property rights and the treatment of personal information, become ever more significant.
The research group was established in 2017, and rests on expertise in copyright law, intellectual property law, artificial intelligence and marketing law, which has been developed over the last decade at the Faculty. The group prioritises collaboration with students and involves the student group Innorett, focusing on legaltech, in parts of the research activity. The group has additionally played a key role in the Faculty's transition to more digital platforms in the University's educational programmes, and has functioned as an advising body in copyright matters concerning digital platforms for the University.
In the close future, the group will focus on realising the interdisciplinary potential within technology and innovation through research projects, networks, and educational platforms. Technological development and rights are at the forefront of the group's collaboration with the Department of Information Science and Media Studies and Media City Bergen, the Department of Informatics and the Faculty of Medicine. Research on artificial intelligence and legal methodology also underpins the development of the various elective courses at the Faculty.
Bergen Forum on Intellectual Property Law
The research group regularly hosts the Bergen Forum on Intellectual Property Law. It is a hub for professionals working in intellectual property law, marketing law, and related legal fields in Bergen and the surrounding area. The forum offers professional insight through seminars and similar events, all of which are open to anyone interested.
