Musicology Research Group
Musicology crossing borders - The Grieg Academy’s Research Group in Musicology is dedicated to historical, ethnographic and theoretical approaches to the study of music.
About the research group
Through presentations, readings and discussions, the group aims to explore musical performance, composition, consumption, and everyday life musical practice, drawing on interdisciplinary debates and critical theories. Participants have a range of specialisms in different musical repertoires – popular, jazz, folk, classical – and from diverse geographical contexts, including Turkey, Latin America, Russia, East Africa, the UK, Germany, and the Nordic region.
Bringing together a range of expertise represented at the Grieg academy – historical musicology, ethnomusicology, cultural studies, media studies, music therapy – the group meets regularly to present current research and discuss new literature.
