Building on the experience of earlier initiatives such as the Centre for Digital Life Norway and AFINO, ARINA provides a competence and learning arena that supports projects in their work with responsible and radical innovation, while facilitating dialogue and capacity building across the portfolio and with the RCN. Central to ARINA is the principle that learning cannot be imposed, but must emerge from open dialogue and shared experiences. By encouraging networking and exchange, ARINA aims to move beyond Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) as an “add-on” and towards a practice where responsibility and innovation are fully integrated in Norwegian research and innovation.
ARINA is not a dissemination platform, but a space where project leaders, researchers, innovators and policy actors can share experiences, challenges and opportunities at the junction of expectations and feasibility when RRI is required in convergence settings. ARINA activities include individual meetings with portfolio projects to map expectations and needs, courses for early and mid-career researchers and workshops for project PIs.
In addition, a central element is the ARINA digital seminar series, where projects are invited to present and discuss their work on RRI in practice, whether this involves addressing gaps between requirements and feasibility, exploring social or ethical concerns, or building collaborations between research, industry, innovation and policy. The seminars are an opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences and share your own.
