The academic year at UiB is a total of 40 weeks and divided into two semesters.

Autumn semester
Autumn semester overview
- Lasts approximately 19 weeks
- Starts in week 32 (mid-August)
- Ends on 20 December
The date for when your lectures start will vary each semester. Contact your faculty for more details.
Important dates in the autumn semester 2026
- Beginning of August (week 32): The Welcome programme for international students will be published in May/June.
- 1 September: Deadline to register for courses and exams in Studentweb.
- November-December: Exams are held throughout the semester, but most of them will be held during this period. Please check each course page for more details.
- 20 December: Official end of the autumn semester.
Public Holidays: There are several public holidays throughout the year in Norway.
Spring semester
Spring semester overview
- Lasts 21 weeks
- Starts normally in week 1 or 2 (early in January)
- Ends on the 20 June
