- Thorkild Tylleskär er barnelege og professor i internasjonal helse siden 2001. Han er utdannet ved Uppsala Universitet og Uppsala Akademiska Sjukhus i Sverige. Hans fokusområder er barnehelse, helsetjenester ved fødsel og for nyfødte, HIV, ernæring og kliniske utprøvinger i lavinntektsland.
- Han leder Norwegian Forum for Global Health Research siden 2023
- Han leder den norske forskerskolen i global helse siden 2025
- Han har en mastergrad i afrikansk lingvistikk fra Sorbonne III i Paris etter feltarbeid i det som i dag er den Demokratiske Republikken Kongo (tidligere Zaire). Hans mastergradsoppgave beskriver fonologien i Sakata-språket.
- Hans doktorgradsavhandling i medisinsk vitenskap i 1994 ved Uppsala Universitet under veiledning av Prof Hans Rosling beskriver årsakene til "konzo", en kronisk lammelsesykdom som lammer kvinner og barn i Kongo og andre lommer i Afrika.
- 12 av hans tidligere doktorgradskandidater er blitt forfremmede til professorer ved universiteter i Afrika, USA og Norge.
