Dyphavsbiologi
I forskningsgruppen dyphavsbiologi studerer vi biologisk mangfold, fysiologi, økologi og evolusjon av mikrober og dyr som lever i dyphavsøkosystemer. Vi bruker en tverrfaglig forskningstilnærming ved å integrere data fra ulike fagfelt (molekylære, biokjemiske, (mikro)biologiske og geokjemiske). Et av våre fokus-miljø i dyphavet, varme kilder, er hjem til mangfoldige og høyt spesialiserte økosystem tilpasset ekstreme miljøforhold. Vi utforsker dette unike biologiske mangfoldet for metabolske tilpasninger og som en ressurs for nye biomolekyler for industrielle og medisinske formål. Dyphavs økosystem er reservoarer av ukjent biodiversitet og er allerede under press fra mange antropogene påvirkninger og klimaendringer. Vi engasjerer oss i forvaltningsspørsmål og studerer effektene av menneskelig påvirkning på økosystem i dyphavet.
