Terms and conditions for publishing under the agreements
To be eligible to publish under the agreements, you must:
- Be affiliated with UiB as an employee, emeritus, PhD candidate or student.
- Be the corresponding author of the publication.
- List UiB as your institutional affiliation in the publication.
Some agreements also include corresponding authors from Helse Bergen/Haukeland University Hospital.

Terms and conditions for publishing under UiB's agreements
- You are the corresponding author of the article (the author with primary responsibility for submitting the manuscript and corresponding with the journal) and affiliated with the University of Bergen as an employee, emeriti, PhD-candidate or student. The affiliation to UiB must be stated in the article as your institutional address. Corresponding authors affiliated with Helse Bergen / Haukeland University Hospital are eligible to publish under some of the agreements.
- Students who wish to publish under the agreements must be able to provide a confirmation from their supervisor or project leader that the publication is connected to their studies at UiB.
- Articles must be published in a publication category included in the agreements.
- The publishing agreements cover the costs of open access publishing. Additional publishing costs, e.g. page charges and colour charges, are not covered by the agreements.
- The publishing agreements only cover articles accepted for publication within the agreement periods.
- For budgetary reasons, the University Library may place limits on the total number of articles an author can publish under the agreements.
- The guidelines may be changed without prior notice, with effect for articles not yet submitted.
Agreements
ACM Digital Library
Agreement period: 1 January 2022 – 31 December 2027.
Agreement type: Read-and-publish agreement (covers both reading access and article processing charges).
Included journals: Most journals and conference series are included; check the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers or OpenScience.no. Titles not owned by ACM, for example IEEE titles, are not included.
Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with UiB, that have listed UiB as an affiliation in the publication. Please use your UiB-email when submitting.

Included article types: Research Article, Short Paper, Review Article, Survey Article, Technical Note, Tutorial, Interview, Note.
Workflow: Authentication is based on e-mail domain. Please use your UiB e-mail when submitting.

ACS – American Chemical Society
Agreement period: 1 January 2023 – 31 December 2027.
Agreement type: Read-and-publish agreement (covers both reading access and article processing charges).
Included journals: All journals from the American Chemical Society.
Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with UiB, that have listed UiB as an affiliation in the publication.
Included article types: Peer-reviewed articles.

UiB also covers publishing in the publisher's fully open access journals (gold open access) for UiB authors.
Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with UiB or Haukeland University Hospital, that have listed UiB or Haukeland as their affiliation in the publication.
Publishing in the publisher's fully open access journals (gold open access) is covered only for UiB authors, not for authors affiliated with Helse Bergen/Haukeland.
Included article types: Case reports, Data in Briefs, Full-length articles, Micro-articles, Original software publication, Practice guidelines, Protocols, Review articles, Replication studies, Short communications, Short surveys, Video articles.

How do you find out whether a journal is included in an agreement?
You can search for specific journals in the Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers (external link). Under the heading "Indexing", check whether the journal is included in a publishing agreement. Then check that UiB is included in the agreement (click "Show who is included in the agreement").
If a publishing agreement is not listed under a journal in the register, it may be worth checking if the publisher is included in the list above. The information in the register is not always up to date.
What do you do if a journal is not included in an agreement?
When publishing in an open access journal that is not included in the agreements, you can apply for support through UiB's publication fund. When publishing in a subscription journal, the accepted manuscript can be made openly available, at no extra cost, by uploading it to the Norwegian Research Information Repository.
