Shelves in the library

Key databases for academic literature
Web of Science Core Collection – one of the world's largest multidisciplinary databases, with the main emphasis on journal articles (it indexes more than 22,000 journals). Strongest in the natural sciences and medicine, but it also covers the social sciences, which include psychology, education and child welfare.
ProQuest Central Premium – a multidisciplinary resource that brings together a range of different databases. On the start page, to the right under the search box, you can narrow to relevant subject resources, such as ProQuest One Psychology, ProQuest One Education, ProQuest One Health & Nursing and ProQuest One Social Sciences.
APA PsycINFO (Ovid) – the largest database for an overview of psychological literature (it indexes about 2,500 journals). Here we also find relevant literature for child welfare, health, education and special needs education. In addition to journal articles, the database also contains references to books, book chapters and doctoral theses.

Review articles and evidence summaries
Review articles, reviews and evidence summaries – many names for the same thing! – aim to present the most up-to-date research and knowledge on a given research question or topic. Here are some resources you can search to find out whether there are review articles relevant to your topic or question.
Campbell Systematic Reviews – systematic reviews in social welfare, education, disability and international development.
Cochrane Library – systematic reviews in health.
Epistemonikos – systematic reviews from, among others, Cochrane, Medline/PubMed and APA PsycInfo. Multilingual.
Evidence summaries for children and young people's mental health (Tiltakshåndboka)
Most databases also contain review articles (reviews). You will often find a filter that narrows to this type of article.
Reference works
Reference works, often with Encyclopedia of... or Handbook of... in the title, give well-developed academic introductions to various topics. This type of text can be useful, for example, when you need to give an account of a topic in an assignment.

Norwegian journals
Scandinavian University Press (SCUP) publishes peer-reviewed journals relevant to various subject areas at the Faculty of Psychology. See Resources for your subject for more tips on Norwegian journals and sources that may be relevant. Formerly Idunn.
Main theses, master's theses and dissertations
Search the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA). Here you can narrow to master's theses (which also include main theses) or doctoral dissertations and by institution, e.g. the University of Bergen. You can enter thematic search terms in the search box.
For international dissertations, we recommend searching ProQuest Dissertations and Theses.
Citation styles: APA 7 and others
APA 7 is the most common style for the subjects at the Faculty of Psychology.

Norwegian journals
Scandinavian University Press: Here you will find journals, including Tidsskriftet Norges Barnevern, and open access books published by Universitetsforlaget. You can narrow by the subject area Health and social work.
Fontene forskning is a scholarly journal for child welfare, social work and social education. The articles that are peer-reviewed are clearly marked.
Psykologi i kommunen is a journal containing articles relevant to child welfare, schools and the educational-psychological service. The articles that are peer-reviewed are clearly marked.
Cappelen Damm Forskning also publishes several journals relevant to children and upbringing. You will also find open access books published by the same publisher.

APA PsycINFO (Ovid) – the largest database for an overview of psychological literature (it indexes about 2,500 journals). In addition to journal articles, it also contains references to books, book chapters and doctoral theses, and more. Here we also find literature in, among other areas, health and neuroscience.
Medline (Ovid) – a medical database with the main emphasis on journal articles (it indexes more than 5,000 journals), with advanced and well-organized search functions widely used for review searches.
PubMed (Medline) – a free interface to the Medline database. It also contains, among other things, a number of documents from US health authorities.
Web of Science Core Collection – one of the world's largest multidisciplinary databases, with the main emphasis on journal articles (it indexes more than 22,000 journals). Strongest in the natural sciences and medicine, but it also covers the social sciences (psychology is usually counted as part of this category) and the humanities. The Core Collection contains 3 sub-databases, and you can choose to search specifically only in the Social Science Citation Index.

Norgeshelsa statistics bank – statistics on health, disease, risk factors and population in Norwegian counties. You can create tables and various types of charts.
