Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure
The group conducts research on criminal law, including criminal procedure, police and prosecution law. Within these fields, the group aims to develop legal theory that will contribute to the national legal practice, and to be at the international forefront of criminal law research.
About the research group
The main focus of the research group is the part of the justice system pertaining to crimes and punishment. A key area is substantive criminal law, where criminal provisions and related rules determine what is punishable and what sanctions shall or may imposed.
Another key area is criminal procedure, with its rules on how crimes are investigated, prosecuted and tried. Furthermore, the research group studies specialised areas such as international and comparative criminal law, police law and criminal enforcement law. The research group examines the topics from different perspectives, including the justifications for criminal law, its constitutional, human rights and international law dimensions, and how the rules work in practice.
The group acts as a forum for academic advancement through seminars, international events and new research projects. Additionally, the group contributes to research-based teaching on a high level through the development of academic literature.
