Kvartærgeologi og paleoklima
Vi arbeider med ulike geologiske prosesser som har skjedd i løpet av de siste millioner årene. Dette inkluderer studiet av marine sedimenter, karbonat- og sedimentavsetninger i huler, innsjøsedimenter og andre avsetninger på jordens overflate.

Nokre av desse arbeida er reine prosess-studiar, medan andre er retta mot å rekonstruere klimaendringar bakover i tid og forstå korleis fortidsklimaet har variert.
Forskingsgruppa har fleire store prosjekt med tyngdepunkt i og rundt Nord-Atlanteren, og gruppa har òg prosjekt i begge polområda, i Himalaya og i Russland. Vi har tilgang til fleire forskingsfartøy, avansert boreustyr for prøvetaking av både marine og terrestriske sediment og vi har fleire avanserte laboratorium, som til dømes Uran-serielaboratorium, laboratorium for kosmogene nuklidar og nasjonal infrastrukturer for sedimentanalysar (EARTHLAB) og lette stabile isotopar (FARLAB).
Målet med våre forskings- og undervisningsaktivtetar er å utvikle metodar og teknikkar for betre å forstå den geologiske historia hovudsakleg gjennom istidsperioden (siste 2,6 million år) og omsetje dette til paleoklimatiske rekonstruksjonar og auka prosessforståing.
